Duties Description

Assist with the establishment and maintenance of infection control, employee health, data collection, including tabulation, analysis, interpretation and dissemination, of results for patients and employees. Assist with the development and revision of infection control and isolation techniques in accordance with accepted current standards of practice to provide optimum care to patients with infectious or communicable disease. Provide training to healthcare staff on infection prevention protocols. Update staff regularly on new infection prevention guidelines, emerging pathogens, and best practices. Educated hospital staff on personal health and safety practices, including the prevention of infection and proper use of PPE. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates from within State service may be considered for transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law to Registered Nurse 2 (Rehabilitation).

Promotion Provisional Appointment can be made in the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must meet one of the following minimum qualifications: Be a current NYS Department of Health employee with one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Registered Nurse 1 Rehabilitation and have possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience in an acute care or acute rehabilitation setting.

If less than three interested and qualified New York State Department of Health employees serving in the direct-line, lower-level title(s) within the agency apply to this opportunity, the agency may make a non-competitive appointment under the NY HELPS program.

Open Competitive HELPS qualifications: Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience in an acute care or acute rehabilitation setting.

Minimum Qualifications Substitution

a bachelor’s degree in nursing can substitute for one year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience; and a master’s degree in nursing can substitute for two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience.

Preferred Qualifications: BSN. Previous experience with infection control surveillance, data collection and analysis. Knowledge of Meditech and data entry. Ability to communicate and interact with other professional staff and peers effectively. Experience teaching groups and preparing course descriptions. Excellent physical assessment skills. ACLS certified. Experience conducting research and identifying best practice to inform strategies, processes, and decision making and staying current on trends and new developments related to best practice.

If there are three or fewer qualified candidates interested in the appointment to this position, a permanent appointment may be made pursuant to Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law. To be eligible, candidates must be an employee of the Department of Health and have one year of permanent competitive service as a Registered Nurse 1 Rehab and have possession of a license and current registration as a registered

professional nurse in New York State; and two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience working an acute care or acute rehabilitation setting.

The posted hiring rate ($104,173) includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for PS&T Grade 20 ($74,192), an Increase Hiring Rate ($9,980), Geographic Pay Differential ($20,000). The posted job rate ($114,121) is the sum of the statutory job rate ($94,121) and Geographic Pay Differential ($20,000).

Additional compensation may apply based on shift assignment. 7% shift differential for evening shift. 10% shift differential for night shift.

This position is part of the NYS HELPS program. No examination is required.
